Colum McKinley to co-manage Renaissance Canadian Core Value Fund

Colum McKinley, CFA, newly appointed Vice-President, Canadian Equities at CIBC Global Asset Management (CGAM), will assume the role of co-portfolio manager, along with David Graham, of the Renaissance Canadian Core Value Fund.

Colum, who joined CGAM this month, has 15 years of investment experience, and was previously at Sionna Investment Managers Inc., where he was Canadian equity portfolio manager for more than four years. He also spent six years as a portfolio manager at TD Asset Management and, prior to that, as a senior investment analyst at Sun Life of Canada.

CGAM Value Process

Colum and David Graham will co-manage the Renaissance Canadian Core Value Fund and the CIBC Canadian Equity Value Fund in accordance with CGAM’s Value Process. The Canadian Equity team follows a rigorous process in selecting undervalued securities, with the goal of achieving above-average, risk-adjusted returns over the long term. The team uses a combination of quantitative and fundamental analysis, emphasizing primarily a bottom-up fundamental analysis, combined with a top-down macro-economic perspective.

The promising companies undergo qualitative analysis to evaluate financial risk and to fully understand the business and industry in which the company operates. The final equity selection has representation from most sectors, resulting in well diversified portfolios to control risk exposure.
