Systematic Investment

Only those who are truly clairvoyant attempt to select the "exact" day to put a lump-sum investment into the market. Long-term investors are better served by using a systematic investment plan.

Most mutual fund companies let investors make small, regular investments — as little as $50 a month — from pay cheques or bank accounts into the mutual fund(s) of their choice. Systematic investing is not only a great way to set some investment discipline, but it also eliminates the worry of investment timing. Because their purchases are spread out over many market cycles, investors don't have to fear buying at a bad time.

With Renaissance Investments, there are two types of systematic investment plans:

Pre-Authorized Chequing Plan (PAC)

With a Pre-Authorized Chequing Plan (PAC), individuals can invest in mutual funds on a regular basis. Renaissance Investments will automatically transfer money from a bank account for the purchase of units in any one of its funds.

For a minimum initial and subsequent investment of $50, individuals can invest weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually on any given day of a month. At the same time, we offer the flexibility to change the investment amount, payment frequency or fund allocation or discontinue the plan with just 10 days' prior written notice.

Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP)

A Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) lets investors make automatic withdrawals from their accounts. With a SWP, they can sell (redeem) fund units from their accounts on a regular basis until they choose to change or cancel the plan.

There is no fee for this plan, and it may be cancelled at any time upon 10 days' written notice.

Who can benefit from a SWP? Anyone who owns mutual funds with total net assets of $10,000 or more in a non-registered account.

With Renaissance Investments, withdrawals can be made with the following guidelines:

  • Withdrawal frequency: Weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually on any day of the month.
  • Withdrawal miniumums: $50 withdrawal required per fund.
  • Payment methods: By cheque, via a third party or direct deposit to a bank account.
  • Withdrawal amounts: Flexible to allow withdrawal amounts and frequencies to be changed to meet income requirements.
